KEY FUNCTION:
Analyze and reconcile accounts and data for accuracy and integrity to assist management and accountants with producing quality data for financial statements.
REPORTING:
Under the general direction of the Manager, Corporate Reporting.
DUTIES:
- Provide comprehensive financial and statistical analysis, including benchmarking and comparative data.
- Provide support to management and the accountants as required.
- Provide support to accountants during the Budgeting and Forecasting processes.
- Oversee bank and accounting reconciliation in a timely manner.
- Provide financial support in special projects as required.
- Provide ad-hoc data analysis as required.
- Track and reconcile various revenues with the Ministry of Health (MOH) as required.
- Prepare monthly and year-end working papers and financial statements.
- Draft monthly and year-end working papers to be reviewed by the accountants.
- Provide coaching to junior accountants and finance clerks as required.
- Provide finance-related services to HSN and other organizations as required.
- Prepare journal entries in accordance with monthly timelines.
- Provide assurance and integrity for data quality.
- Provide reconciliation for HSN in regards to case costing data.
- Provide detailed analysis for HSN in regards to Quality-Based Procedures (QBP) Funding.
- Provide quarterly reporting to internal departments and external agencies.
- Determine and align improvement projects with HSN's Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
- Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
- Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place.
- Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required.
- Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
- Minimum of a two (2) year Diploma in Accounting, from an accredited college.
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from an accredited university is preferred.
- Enrolled in a professional accounting designation program as a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) is required.
- Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of three (3) years' financial experience and/or experience working in a Finance department within a health care environment.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated knowledge of Management Information Systems (MIS) Guideline and the Ontario Healthcare Reporting System.
- Demonstrated knowledge of financial and accounting concepts.
- Demonstrated technical skills.
- Demonstrated excellent judgment and proven analytical skills.
- Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of lean methodology for process improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
- Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software, e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook and patient information systems (e.g. Meditech).
- Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated ability to manage routine correspondence, multiple tasks/projects, diversified workload and rapidly changing priorities and challenging deadlines.
- Demonstrated discretion and maturity when handling confidential information.
- Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
