BOARD OF HEALTH CLERK (TEMPORARY - 15-20 HOURS PER MONTH)

About the position: As the Clerk, you will assist in performing all statutory duties under the Board of Health (BoH) policy and procedures, including compliance with the Health Promotion and Protection Act, Municipal Act and other relevant statutes and legislation. You will be responsible for facilitating Board of Health meetings, including preparing agendas, minute-taking, report preparation and drafting and adherence to the procedural by-laws. This position is critical in ensuring the smooth functioning, legislative compliance, and sound governance of BOH meetings. The Clerk exercises a high degree of judgement and discretion by working with confidential, urgent, and sensitive items related to the decision-making process.

Key Responsibilities:
- Perform statutory duties under all legislative acts, including HPPA, Municipal Act and other related Acts.
- Prepare and manage agendas, reports, motions, and minutes for board meetings.
- Coordinate the publication of BOH meeting agendas and minutes.
- Participate in using, maintaining and enhancing technology used in meetings and meeting preparation.
- Work with highly sensitive and confidential matters effectively.
- Establish positive working relationships with staff and BOH members.
- Attend meetings, record meetings and ensure correct indexing.
- Maintain strict confidentiality with sensitive information.
- Participate in relevant seminars and/or courses.
- Expected to attend all BOH meetings (generally 3rd Wednesday of each month).

Skills and Qualifications:
- College Diploma or University Degree in public administration, political science, business, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Enrollment in or completion of the Municipal Administration Program is required.
- 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in a municipal environment.
- Experience in the administration of municipal elections is preferred.
- Familiarity with broader public sector experience likely attained through work in municipal government operations and related legislation.
- Preference for candidates with a CMO (AMCTO) designation.
- Demonstrated experience creating minutes and agendas.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to multi-task and prioritize.
- Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a focus on customer service.
- Strong leadership, facilitation, and conflict resolution skills.
- Proven ability to work in a self-directed manner and set project and work timelines.
- Demonstrated commitment to championing Brant County Health Unit's Mission, Vision, and Values.
- Proven good attendance record with capability of maintaining the same standard.
- Must pass a satisfactory Police Criminal Record Check
- Use of a reliable vehicle and valid insurance
- Required to have full COVID-19 immunization and are able to provide evidence of status.
Terms and conditions of employment in accordance with BCHU Board of Health Administrative Policies and Procedures. Salary range: $43.88 - $51.36 per hour
