Purpose:

Apply HSN Bed Management policies while following the guiding principles to: track admitted patients through emergency, urgent and elective admissions; look for opportunities to place patients in the most appropriate inpatient location; communicate regularly with physicians' office and staff from hospitals outside the region/country on their needs for an inpatient bed; monitor all admission requests for isolation requirements; seek out solutions to difficult patient placement cases with departments and highlight key challenges to the Patient Flow Coordinator; participate in daily bed round meetings with directors, clinical managers, charge nurse and report on type of post op admissions, patients in recovery, elective admissions, patients holding in Emerge and monitor/record daily discharges and transfers.

Education and Training:

  • Graduated from a related post secondary diploma and/or degree program
  • Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.

Experience:

  • A minimum of six (6) months recent relevant experience required

Knowledge/Skills

Ability:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and proficiency in Medical Terminology
  • Proficiency in data entry and working knowledge of computerized patient information systems
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office software, i.e. Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Proven ability to understand, interpret and apply written oral instructions
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational skills and the ability to function in a multi-tasked environment
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately type a minimum of 50 w.p.m.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills with the proven ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians and other health care professionals
  • Strong problem solving and conflict management skills with ability to seek out system flow opportunities

Personal Suitability:

  • Ability to work independently in a fast paced environment
  • Demonstrated positive work record and good attendance record
